According to a report published in The Guardian on 18th May, English football player Adam Johnson pleaded not-guilty on the allegations of sexual activity with a minor.

The football player who came to the court with his partner Stacey Flounders, was arrested in March on allegations of sexual activity with a 15 year old girl.
Adam Johnson, who has played for the country 12 times, has been accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 15 year old girl. He apparently took the girl out at two locations in County Durham, where he lives in his mansion. On a January night, he took the girl out and engaged in sexual activity with her thrice and sexually grooming her. The poor kid did not know that she was being taken on a ride by this popular footballer. He had been meeting her since December, and had all this in his mind, though she might have been very happy at the thought of being with a 27 year old footballer, but she did not know to which extent he would take advantage of her. After that January night, he kept meeting her. It was only when, the parents of the girl started feeling suspicious of where the girl used to go, they sternly asked her, and she spilled the beans. Following the parents shock, the parents decided to call the cops and register a case against the player. He was subsequently arrested in March and the hearing of the case held in Peterlee Magistrates court in May. In the court, Johnson’s, Solicitor indicated that the footballer would plead not guilty of the charges as the girl had willingly engaged in sexual activity with him. The case has now gone to Durham Crown Court (T20130412), for a preliminary hearing on 3rd June. Johnson is rightly being accused of statuary rape on the minor, as the age of consensual sex in the UK is 16 years and above. The parents of the girl want him punished for misguiding and undue advantage of the innocence of their daughter.
People should be aware of the consequences if engaging in sexual activity with a minor. There is a reason why a certain age of consent has been written down by the law.
