Every NEWGEN designer at the exhibition will be provided with the opportunity to show their designs in a devoted pop-up showroom.
The showroom will be theirs for up to four hours after they have given their presentation or show and will give buyers an opportunity to talk to the young designers and make appointments with them.
NEWGEN designers is the British Fashion Council’s project that supports brilliant and upcoming talents have a vision of building a global, high end fashion brand for the future. The scheme provides the designers with financial support and opportunities to showcase their designs, including showing at the London fashion week.
Designers at NEWGEN are recognized for their creativity, a powerful look and good product differentiation. NEWGEN chairwoman, Sarah Mower MBE, is centered on choosing designers who are prepared for the benefits that NEWGEN provides. The BFC together with the NEWGEN committee provide the support and TOPSHOP, offer more personal support and business conferences to aid designers as they create their own foundation and skills.
Sarah Mower MBE who is also BFC Ambassador for emerging talent, contributing editor to Vogue US and Chair of the NEWGEN selection, commented: “The NEWGEN initiative has an unrivalled reputation as the scheme which has seen countless designers to London Fashion Week and success in selling globally. The panel and I are always stunned to be able to meet designers and discover what they have to say at an early stage, and, with our teamwork and Topshop’s sponsorship, to help fast-track their business savvy as well as their talent for design. Everyone who wants a window on the future shouldn’t be missing what our NEWGEN cohort has to say this season – they are as individualistic as London designers are, but also characterized by their collective pure enjoyment of clothes, innovation, artistry and a playful sense of fun. My only criticism is the dearth of accessory designers applying to NEWGEN. We want to see more! So please take this is a call-out for next season’s talent!”
NEWGEN sponsorship was started in 1993 and since then, it has been acting as a profile-raising launch for young designers that attracts media profile traffic, orders and investments while at the same time providing assistance and support for upcoming talent. Former NEWGEN winners include: Christopher Kane, Alexander Macqueen, Nicholas Kirkwood, Jonathan Sounders, Mary Katrantzou, J.W Anderson and Roksanda LLincic among others.
Managing director of TOPSHOP, Mary Homer, commented: “We are proud that TOPSHOP continues to play an integral part in nurturing the very best of our young design talent. NEWGEN has been instrumental in introducing home-grown designers to global stage and the support it offers to fledgling designers, both commercially and creatively, is invaluable to their future success in the industry.”
