According to the article in the BBC News, dated 27 March 2015: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-32086627 , Father McSweeney, 68, a “voyeuristic “catholic priest was found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy between the year 1979 and 1981. The police said that Anthony McSweeney, a priest worked at Grafton on an ad hoc basis as a helper and the council never formally employed him. Anthony, together with his friend John Stingemore, who was the manager of the care home at Grafton Close Children’s home in Hounslaw, assaulted a 15-year-old boy. In the early stages of the trial, Anthony confessed to jurors he had watched children in the shower and collected indecent videos of children, he also added saying that he had watched footage that featured young boys of around 10-years-old on a home cinema with his friend John Stingemore, who had died in January, before the trial. As part of his defence, Anthony McSweeney, who had been described as morbidy obese, said that he was too fat to fit a teenager on him when denying molesting the boys between the years 1979 and 1981. During his sentence at Southwark Crown court (T20147419), Judge Alistair McCreath, said: “He has a voyeuristic interest in children, either in seeing them unclothed, or in seeing them sexually abused by others.” The judge added saying that McSweeney posed a “high risk of serious harm” to children, via sexual assault and exploitation through sexual images. When the trial was in progress, it emerged that the Catholic Church nearly dropped when his cleaner found sex toys, truncheons and indecent videos of teenage boys at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Essex in 1998.
