Third Party Candidate Promising To ‘Do Nothing’ Gaining Momentum, Could Be “Game Changer,” Experts Say

(PressMediaWire) - Stephen Thomas, a virtual unknown politically a week ago, has emerged as a surprising challenger in the Presidential race, and is gaining ground in the polls at an unprecedented rate.

Thomas’ support has stemmed from disillusionment and anger at the two major party candidates action during the current financial meltdown; as Obama and McCain duel each other to see who can promise more and bigger government programs, the Thomas campaign has rapidly gained popularity, and more than two dozen endorsements, by promising to “Do Nothing But Undo,” and get Washington out of citizens lives.

“We the People are sick and tired of Washington ‘doing things,’” says Thomas, founder of the fledgling “We The People” political party. “Whenever they ‘do something’ in D.C., We The People are the ones who end up paying for it, figuratively and literally.” Socialist leanings, programs, and ideas are the enemy of the new political party, and both Thomas and his VP running mate Darrell Joyce promise a return to American greatness through organized restraint of the federal government. “Obama and McCain will have to break almost every promise they’re making; we don’t have that problem, because we promise to do nothing,” says Thomas. “We will reduce, reduce, reduce, and then reduce spending even more.” Pundits around the country have begun to take notice, and have labeled the emotional firestorm Thomas ignites in his followers, “The Thomas Effect.” As Thomas cuts further and further into the polling numbers, the real question is, is there enough time left to overtake the leaders?

So what is it that excited the Stephen Thomas Army? Smaller government, less spending, and hard-line cuts in earmarks. An implementation of the line-item veto to eliminate “Christmas tree pork,” the elimination of the tax on Social Security income, making the first $50k of income for all citizens tax-free and the first $50k of paid salary payroll tax free for businesses, along with a mandatory 25% reduction in staff for all elected officials in DC, are just some of the pillars on which the Thomas campaign is built. The campaign was started on Thomas’ MySpace page as a way for he and like-minded friends to vent their frustration against the current candidates, but they soon found there were more like-minded citizens than previously thought. The grassroots campaign has exploded as word has spread, and is approaching “viral” status. “Stephen’s incredible spike in popularity says a lot about his ideas, beliefs, and his ability to connect with Americans,” says Craig Allen, Thomas’s Senior Campaign Advisor. “It also says quite a bit about how people really feel about the two major party candidates, and how sick they are of the ‘gimme gimme gimme’ mentality bred by their actions. Stephen promises to do nothing, and I'm definitely onboard with that,” says Allen. “The two major party candidates are trying to outdo each other by promising even bigger government - isn't giving the gang of 535 elected idiots too much power and control what got us in trouble in the first place?”

As novel as “doing nothing” may seem, Thomas and his supporters see it as the road back to American superiority in all aspects of life. Though he and his running mate are both professional comedians, and their campaign sometimes relies on laughter to get the point across, they are very serious about their candidacy. “If you look historically, the biggest times of prosperity in our country have all come when government activity was low. The 1920’s ‘Roared” because Coolidge was ‘Silent Cal.” We The People liked Ike in the 1950’s because he mostly stayed out of our way. JFK was on his way to reducing a lot of Washington before that horrible day in Dallas,” explains Thomas. “All we’re proposing is to return to those days; Washington cannot do things for you, it can only be an obstacle between you and your success. As President, I will do everything in my power to keep Washington out of your way.” Thomas then proclaims his official campaign motto: “I Promise To Do Nothing But Undo.”
