"...social media is becoming increasingly relevant and influential..." — Kathleen Gee, a public relations consultant with FreelancePR.com,

A "Kelly Clarkson Music Bomb" launched by a contributor to TheDailyPaul.com, a grassroots Web site for Ron Paul supporters, has apparently helped boost sales of Ms. Clarkson's latest album, "Stronger," by nearly 200% on Amazon.com.
"This proves that social media is becoming increasingly relevant and influential, as consumers move away from so-called 'mainstream media'," said Kathleen Gee, a public relations consultant with FreelancePR.com, a Web site offering freelance public relations, SEO and social media services.
"When Ms. Clarkson posted her Ron Paul endorsement on December 29th, 'Stronger' was listed at #41 in Amazon.com album sales. Within less than 24 hours after launching the 'music bomb,' sales of Ms. Clarkson's album had shot up by 192%, as noted on The Drudge Report, and by December 30th, was ranked 14th in album sales, putting it at number two on Amazon's 'Movers and Shakers' list," said Ms. Gee.
The "music bomb" was launched to support Ms. Clarkson after she posted an endorsement of Ron Paul's presidential campaign on Facebook, saying, "I love Ron Paul…If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote." She explained, in a follow-up post, " I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he's my favorite."
The American Idol winner was dismayed to find that anti-Paul activists blanketed her Facebook page with hate speech in the hours after her endorsement, saying, "Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y'all ever disagree with something I say please don't feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you."
"Let's return Kelly some love today by getting her latest album back into the top 10," said TheDailyPaul poster "libertyboy" in proposing the "music bomb." The campaign was modeled on the "money bombs" invented by Ron Paul supporters during the 2008 campaign, in which thousands of supporters donate to the campaign online during a short period of time. In December, 2007, Ron Paul supporters raised over $6 million in a 24-hour period, setting a new campaign fundraising record.
"Dr. Paul is on the verge of major breakout in support and things like this are just the catalyst the movement needs," said 'libertyboy.' "It takes a lot of guts for any musician to come out in support of a candidate for the simple fact they may offend some fans that might not agree with one's views and possibly lose out in record sales. Let's show Kelly the opposite is also possible, especially when it comes to the Liberty Movement."
A commenter identified as "conalmc" on TheDailyPaul added, " I love being a Paul supporter. We back each other up like no other supporters do. And yet we are mostly individual minded libertarians who are against collectivism. I argue that this completely proves the fact that voluntary charity through compassion, awareness and education completely stomps forced charity via entitlement programs."
"This kind of support is worth its weight in gold," says Gee, noting that "grassroots involvement and social sharing like this is seen as far more credible and meaningful than paid advertising or traditional marketing. And though some marketing consultants believe social media engagement is hard to measure, it's also hard to argue with a 200% bump in sales."
